With special permission we go to the restricted area at the "Llano de Jable" on the Cumbre Vieja. There you can have a look at the lava flows from above and walk to the crater of the new volcano "Tajogaite".

The 5 km circular walk starts at the oldest historically documented volcano on the Canary Island of La Palma and leads over thick layers of ash to the most recent Cumbre Vieja eruption in 2021. From here, a completely new perspective opens up, previously only accessible to volcanologists. Supported by powerful visuals, the local hiking guide transports you to the time during the eruption, tells you about his own experiences, the far-reaching effects of the volcanic eruption for La Palma and what the situation looks like today.

Here you can marvel at the energy of the new Cumbre Vieja volcano and the mystical landscape that was created here in less than three months.

We return via the old forest path "Cabeza de Vaca" with further views of the Aridane valley. In principle, the volcano hike is doable for everyone. However, it is a little more strenuous on the way back than on the way there due to the fresh volcanic ash on two short, steeper sections.

• The meeting point is at the entrance to the El Paso Tourist Information Centre in the centre of town. Parking is available at the Hiperdino Supermarket (09:00 - 22:00).

The hikes take place every day except Thursday.
