Los Llanos de Aridane
“Los Llanos” means plains, and so does the word "Aridane", coming from the language of the native inhabitants of La Palma.
When enjoying the view from the Mirador El Time of Los Llanos the lovely Aridane Valley lies at your feet. The district is located on the sunny west-side of the Canary Island La Palma.
The mountain ridge of the National Park Caldera de Taburiente and the mountain range Cumbre Nueva shelter the plains from the humid north-east trade wind.
With more than 20.900 inhabitants Los Llanos is the most populous district of the Isla Bonita.
A total area of 36km² stretches down to the Atlantic coast, that invites you to enjoy dark sandy beaches, like in Puerto Naos, that invites you for swimming all year-round.
In case the sea once becomes too rough, there are plenty of alternatives to discover the surrounding area.
The district's main source of income are bananas, whose intense green leaf colour is present everywhere as well as tourism.
There are different organizers of biking- or hiking tours, diving centres and there is also the possibility to book paragliding tandem jumps.

Todoque and Las Norias
In the area of Todoque and Las Norias the lava flow of the Volcano San Juanef (1949) dominates the landscape.
This popular residential area offers mild temperatures all year-round.
Only 15 driving minutes from Los Llanos you enjoy great views of the Atlantic Ocean due to the hillside location.
Las Manchas
The Plaza Glorieta and the wine museum are worth a visit.

Important Festivals in the Town and District of Los Llanos
Carnival - Carnaval
Queens of Fiestas are elected and colourful parades are taking place.
Although the typical "Indiano" does not exist like in Santa Cruz, however, also in the secret capital Los Llanos carnival enthusiasts scatter their white talcum powder in all directions.
Holy Week - Semana Santa
During the Holy Week daily processions provide contemplation on Christ's Passion and resurrection.
May 3 - Día de las Cruces
In celebration of the holy cross feasts in different districts crosses are decorated.
Second Half of May - Fiestas Patronales, La Laguna
The small village celebrates the saints „San Isidro y la Santa Cruz“.
In honour of the patron saint of the farmers and the Holy Cross processions, horse races, dancing performances and a "romería" (pilgrimage) take place.
June 23 and 24 - Fiesta de San Juan, Puerto Naos
The night before Saint John's Day witches dance around the fire.
June - July - Fiestas Patronales, Los Llanos
The patron saint of Los Llanos, Nuestra Señora de los Remedios is honoured.
On July 2nd the patron saint is honoured with processions and songs of praise.
Fringe events last several weeks and include horse races, concerts, an agricultural show, a holiday pageant in terms of a typical "romería", election of Festival Queen and a large arts festival.
July 16th- Fiestas del Carmen, Beaches of La Bombilla, Puerto de Naos, Charco Verde and El Remo
Marian processions in honour of the Virgin Carmen, protectress of sailors and marine soldiers, fishermen as well as all kinds of voyagers.
August 15 - Nuestra Señora de las Angustias
Pilgrims come to the church in Barranco de Las Angustias, the local music band plays and there is a huge procession.
First Half of August - Fiestas in Argual
Horse race, cultural and other recreational activities.
Second Half of August - Fiestas San Pío X, Todoque
As is the La Palma custom at this festival ecclesiastic and worldly people come together.
Christmas
Downstairs the Casa de la Cultura (cultural center), next to the town hall of Los Llanos, every year a new landscape crib is created.
Around 250m2 island landscape is designed with natural materials, figures and lots of love and attention to the detail.
